“Lord God, thank you for nature and for sending us the variety of weathers we get. Thank you for sunshine and for rain, for wind and for cold – this mixture that works together to stimulate growth and germination. I marvel at the way it all promotes life and health. In Jesus’ name – AMEN”

The above prayer from Faith For Daily Living on the 24th made me reminisce on our human lives. Lyn and I are truly blessed in that we have access to a place in the bush which borders the KNP. Three months ago when visiting the bush it was barren with very little ground cover with the result that the grazing animals had moved on to “greener pastures”. We had the sunshine but no rain, we had scorched bushes from the sun. The fires that go hand in hand with drought had blackened what was left of the grass. The above prayer says “thank you for nature and for sending us the variety of weathers we get”. Were we happy for the “variety” we got, NO, all we saw was semi desert terrain with no life at all and nothing left to support life. Three months on, after rain, the area has been transformed into a garden of Eden. The burned grass is now greener and more nourishing than ever. In amongst the greener than green leaves of the trees are branches with new growth, revitalizing the tree to be bigger and stronger than before. Leaves and grass that once again support life. Now we can pray honestly “Thank you Lord for sending us the variety of weather we get”..

Are our lives not the same? We have barren patches, our outlook is sometimes “blackened” by the storm clouds that are gathering. The future looks bleak. At a time like this we need to hold onto the promise of God: “I will never leave you or forsake you” Joshua 1:5. We then have times of plenty when life is awesome when everything is going so well. We feel our spiritual life flourishing. Our lives are similar to nature and the prayer that says : “this mixture that works together to stimulate growth and germination. I marvel at the way it all promotes life and health”

Let us pray: Almighty God we pray that we too might grow and flourish through our barren times and that when we come through the storms of life the rainbow will once again shine; that we will be stronger and more “nourished” with Your love and Your presence; that we can once again believe that nothing NO nothing can separate us from Your love. Almighty God it is not always easy to envisage the rainbow while we are going through the storm but with Your presence it will make it a lot easier. Please journey with us through the storms and the calm in our lives. In Jesus name we pray with so much love and so much thanksgiving. Amen
