Colin's Wise Wednesday - 1st August 2018

It’s Wednesday here we go again.

A sombre message today, one that is close to my heart. Once again what I had thought of sharing with you changed this morning. Please bear with me. After snuggling back into a warm bed this morning after making Lyn a cup of tea (for a change!) Just Jinger’s song  “What He Means” (If there grace in this world) was playing on the radio. As I lay there “as snug as a bug in a rug” listening to the words of the song my thoughts went out to what I had planned for today. It was to deliver food parcels, together with Mike, to the squatter camps in Tembisa.  Food parcels that are sponsored by Hillside and packed by committed congregants. In 2011 there were nearly 500 000 people in Tembisa … and now?  How many of those people have electricity to make a cup of tea, how many of those 500 000 have got beds to snuggle into?  Our food parcels give 1440 meals … a small percentage of those who are hungry.

I lay in bed going over the words of the song and thinking of the people in shacks …. do they feel there is grace in this world? For those 1440 who receive a meal maybe for a while they will, what about the others? What do the words peace, love, more tolerance, faith, hope, trust in the same God mean to them?  My mood in bed changed somewhat. My mood after the food delivery and after downloading the words of the song became even more sombre. These are some of the word’s of from Just Jinger’s song - so soul searching:

If there is grace in this world
If there is light on this earth
Let us use it
Let us see it
Starting right now

Can we be down with ourselves
Respectful and mindful of one, of one another
Your significant other
Your sister your brother

Acceptance is the key to all we know
What about a stir of compassion and leaneance
What about some understanding
What about some sympathy

Peace, love, more tolerance
Faith, hope trust in the same God in whose
Name we die for

I pray that God will not only let these words resonant within us but also prompt us to respond to the message.

Let’s pray: Heavenly Father Your word says let us never tire of doing good. No matter how big or small our contributions may be to do good it will make a difference to those receiving it. Please God show us where we can assist someone or do something to help others. Help us to be sensitive to the needs of others and please God help us not only to hear their needs but to respond to Your call to assist those in need. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
