Colin's Wise Wednesday - 22nd August 2018

Saturday nights are our favorite radio nights. From 22H00 until midnight on 702 they have a program ‘Jukebox’ featuring hits from the 1950s and 1960s. On Saturday night they played our wedding song of 47 years ago ‘Love is a beautiful song’ by Dave Mills. Wow what awesome memories came flooding  back.

Love is a beautiful song
La-lah, la-la-lah, la-lah
Love is a new way of living
A new way of starting each day
Millions of people all over the world
Know that love is a beautiful so-ong
It's so good to see you now
Looking as lovely as ever
It's so good to be alive
Knowing that we are together
It's so good to see that love
Has painted the stars in your eyes
You're looking the picture of loveliness
You're looking a picture my love
Love is a beautiful song
La-lah, la-la-lah, la-lah

I was wondering what has kept us together for so long. Maybe the words of this song, although not realizing it until I wrote the lyrics down, had a lot to do with it?  When we got married love was indeed a new way of living and a new way of starting each day.  The next part of the song hit home to me...it’s so good to see you now (47 years later), looking as lovely as ever.  It’s so good to be alive knowing that we are (still) together. Then the real romantic part: It’s so good to see that love Has painted the stars in your eyes You’re looking the picture of loveliness Your looking the picture my love.   When we chose this song little did we realize that 47 years later it would still be relevant in our lives.

Marriage is a journey, a journey of love, a journey that hopefully and prayerfully lasts a lifetime. During any journey there are bound to be problems.  How one deals with them makes the difference. If you journey by car and the car breaks down what do you do? Most cars are covered by a service plan and roadside assistance....help is a phone call away and a relief for some of the stress.   If you have a problem in your marriage or life’s journey call your service provider ….. God, who is on 24/7 standby.  Lyn and I know that not all problems are solved or illnesses cured but we have that inner peace knowing that God is with us 24 hours a day to assist us in coping with whatever we are going through.  While not wanting to trivialize problems or illnesses we have realized that God is good and His love endures forever even if at times we do not recognize it.

In closing I would like to share something I read and something Lyn and I are trying to aspire to: “The best gift you can give to your children (and now grandkids as well) is a happy marriage”....With God’s help we will.

Let’s pray: Please God be my Navigator through the journey of life. Oh God how I need Your direction. Amen.
