Colin's Wise Wednesday - 26th December 2018

A Wednesday with a difference…. the Wednesday after Christmas.  The magical Christmas joy which is displayed by so many of us should be a reminder of the Christmas spirit of love, joy and peace as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ. At this time of the year this spirit is evident in so many places.  We witnessed it on Sunday night as thousands of people of all ages, race and from all walks of life shared Christmas Carols at Mandela Square in Sandton.  The joy was palpable.  Wouldn’t it be great if we carried this Christmas spirit with us throughout the year?.

Although most of us will have experienced the joy and peace which the magic of Christmas brings I am fully aware of the people for whom Christmas is a difficult time, those who have lost loved ones, those facing financial doom and gloom, illness that has taken its toll during the year, depression that is deepening ….. I can go on.  How do they go out there and show and feel the joy that Christmas brings?  While pondering this question I went looking through my Christmas CD collection. I came across Elvis Presley’s “Christmas Wishes”.  I really enjoyed his rendition of the usual Christmas tunes including White Christmas, Silent Night and The First Noel . Then came a song that I had never noticed before “His Hand in Mine”. I listened to the words and replayed it time and time again:  I wonder if these words could help those battling with the Christmas Spirit this year?

You may ask me how I know my Lord is real (my Lord is real)

You may doubt the things I say and doubt the way I feel (the way I feel)

But I know He’s real today He’ll always be (He’ll always be )

I can feel His hand in mine and that’s enough for me

I will never walk alone He holds my hand (He holds my hand )

He will guide each step I take

And if I fall I know He will understand

Till the day He tells me why He loves me so (He loves me so )

I can feel His hand in mine

That’s all I need to know

Let’s pray:   Please God help us to feel Your hand in ours as we reflect on the Christmas story and please help us to be able to say with our whole heart mind and soul;  “I can feel His hand in mine and that’s enough for me”. In Jesus name we pray with so much love and so much thanksgiving. Amen

Take care and enjoy your day of recovery today.

God Bless ~ Colin.
