Colin's Wise Wednesday - 13th March 2019

The day after I posted last week’s devotion about lent and what we would be giving up or taking on to get closer to God I came across this quote during our cell group Lent Bible Study;  The Final Weeks:

‘No act of virtue can be great if it is not followed by advantage for others. So, no matter how much time you spend fasting, no matter how much you sleep on a hard floor and eat ashes and sigh continually, if you do no good to others, you do nothing great.’

(John Chrysostom)

I then applied the above quote to Lent and it made me think -  how is my “sacrifice” for Lent going to help others? (It will help Lyn – she won’t have to nag me to stop scratching!!)  Seriously though I will get closer to God… so? I thought some more…If I have a closer walk with God and it does not show in my words, thoughts and deeds, who am I trying to fool, definitely not God. So yes I am going to be more conscious of expressing my closer walk with God by my actions. Thanks John Chrysostom for the prompt.

I hope that this quote has made you think more about how you can allow God to express His love through you during this period.

Let’s pray: In Your creation God from the ashes after a fire the roots grow stronger the shoots are greener and more succulent for the herbivores that feed on them. I pray that during lent we will also grow from the ashes, our spiritual roots will grow stronger and deeper and that we will sprout forth in Your love and in Your praise. Amen

God Bless ~ Lyn & Colin
