Daily dying and living!!!!!! What’s that all about Colin? In 1 Peter 2:24 it says “He Himself bore sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness”. We know Jesus died for our sins but don’t you think His death is also intended to lead us in our own daily dying to sin and living to righteousness, living in the image of Christ? The only One without sin suffered and died so we sinners could be justified. Shouldn’t His death encourage us to try as best we can, with God’s help, to live a Christ inspired life?

How do we die to sin? Joe Thorn in his book “Note to Self” suggests we start by refuting its influence and recognize that sin is powerless over us. One way we can do this is to be aware of temptation while remembering that God sacrificed His only Son for our redemption. It sounds soooooo easy and a quick fix but from experience it is not.  I thought that sin would die of old age, I believed that I could wait sin out and sin would eventually grow weak and frail like me. I find that our sin ages like an oak tree, its roots grow deeper and branches grow stronger and some day’s sin appears overwhelming while the Grace of God seems small? Sin is a slow continuous process that runs the span of our lives and if we don’t root it out it will take over our lives.

Let’s give it a go, let’s die to sin every moment of every day by recognizing sin for what it is and not trying to justify it, by identify temptation in all its guises and lastly by living in the truth that Jesus has set us free through His death. Just last week I was tempted, under the most unlikely circumstances, by one of my many sins of the past, a weakness that I battled with over the years and I can honestly say, thanks be to God, that I am no longer a slave to that particular sin, what an awesome feeling. God helped me recognize temptation and the sin for what it really was.

Last week’s temptation was summed up in a line of the chorus of a song, This is Amazing Grace, we sang this morning; “You laid down Your life that I would be set free.

Let’s pray:   “This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love that You would take my place, that You would bear my cross. You laid down Your life that I would be set free. Oh  Jesus, I sing for all that You have done for me”. Amen

God Bless ~ Lyn & Colin
