Does God really exist?

As I sit in bed listening to the news, before we do our quiet time, I see the huge tree opposite us swaying in the wind. I often liken it to my Christian walk. I cannot see God but I can feel the effects of His presence. I often wondered how I could put this in “eloquent” words. A few months ago I came across a devotion that illustrated it beautifully.

How can you believe in something that you can’t see? The writer had this question asked by a good friend while discussing if God really exists. The writer’s response was do you believe in wind?  Definitely why do you ask? You can’t see the wind! Sure you can. No you can’t you can see the tree swaying you can see the kite flying but can you see the wind? You can see the effects of the wind, yes, especially after a storm, and you can feel it if you go outside. The friend agreed and the writer summed it up by saying: That’s how God is, I don’t have to see Him. I can see what he does and feel Him at work in my life. He can’t be more obvious to me. The friend thought for a while then nodded in approval, I had never thought of it that way.

Isn’t that a lovely way of demonstrating the presence of God? I loved it. Do we mirror the presence of God in our lives? Without saying we are Christ Followers do people know? Do we reflect the fruits of the Spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in all that we do? By their fruits they will be recognized (Mt7:16)

Let’s pray: Breathe on me breath of God. Please God help me as I go through this day and every day to practice seeking Your presence. Just as the leaves are stirred by the unseen wind as I look out the window please God stir my heart with the breath of Your very real presence. Please God help me to know that You are near and please help me to reflect Your living presence in words thoughts and deeds today and forever. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

God bless and take care ~ Lyn & Colin
