Thrilled by Hope!!!!

Time again for reflection as we sit at home after a 2 week break that took us to the Drakensberg and you’ve guessed it to the bush. We were privileged to listen to the Drakensberg Boys Choir. Boys of all races, colours and creeds coming together as one in song and dance. The first half included many Christmas songs harmonizing as I imagine the Angels would have. Shivers ran down my spine at their rendition of ‘Oh Holy Night’:

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels' voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine O night
O night divine.

The second half was different but forms part of the message I picked up.  All the Boys were singing and dancing to Freedom songs and doing the traditional gum boot dance, a dance that I often watched as a kid who grew up on the mines. Who would’ve imagined this happening 25 years ago?  The more I thought about this I realized that we were all set free by the new rainbow nation which was mirrored on the boys faces. As I looked into this mirror I saw a reflection of “A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new glorious morn. Fall on your knees, O hear the angels' voices”.

When last where we thrilled by Hope? At the start of this Advent period let’s prepare ourselves for the break of a new glorious morn as we hear the Angels proclaim the arrival of God’s love in the form of our Saviour, the Hope of the world. The manger encourages us to believe the best is yet to come, and it could all begin today.

Let’s pray: Please God help us prepare space in our calendars and especially in our heart for Your Son Jesus Christ this Christmas. Let us be the new Innkeeper, with a new message “Please come in I have been preparing a place for You”. In Jesus name we pray Amen.

God Bless and please take care.
