Colin's Wise Wednesday - 20th February 2019

Before Lyn and I started our quiet time on the morning of the 15th February, we were chatting about the sale of an investment property.  We now face the Capital Gains Tax issue, amongst other things,  and  we lament  about  incorrect advice given to us upfront. Lyn is the “stressor” of note in our family and with provisional tax looming large on the horizon Lyn was stressing even more. I  told her not to worry about it and showed her  a whatsapp message that Paul had posted on our FATHERS  group this morning:

Psychology says:

When you focus on problems you will have more problems

When you focus on possibilities you have more opportunities

Lyn was quick to point out that she stresses (understatement) because she doesn’t  like putting people out etc etc.  Lyn then said we should do our quiet time.  Being so “uptight” I suggested she take a few minutes to quiet her mind and focus on God.  Lyn told me later what was going through her mind at my suggestion;  “ ‘oh yeah’ but did exactly that by mentally ‘singing’ “Your love never fails, never gives up never runs out on me”.  We then listened to Brian’s Digital Devotion about worry. His angst and I am sure most of ours, is trying to handle tomorrow’s trouble with today’s strength.  It doesn’t work.  God will give us renewed strength in the morning to handle whatever comes our way tomorrow. Lyn had a BURNING BUSH moment, as God spoke so clearly to her about the way she worries about things that may never happen!!  As  we listened to the devotion I turned to Lyn and saw the tears streaming down her cheeks and her tight lips holding back the sobs. We continued our quiet time with another Devotion that ended with a reading from  Is 41:10  Do not be afraid. I will be with you. Let nothing frighten you, because I am your God. I will give you strength.

Wow !!! Thanks be to God. Our Daily Devotions often reflects what is happening in Lyn’s and my life. Coincidence?  NO!! God-incidence.  YES!! When this happens I am always reminded of  Psalm 8:4 “What is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You care for him”. Let’s take time out of our busy life to be quiet and to hear God’s voice. It may not be a burning bush like Moses experienced but it could be through our daily devotion.

Let’s Pray: Lord thank you for giving us the strength for today’s challenges and thanks for the promise that tomorrow you will renew our strength to cope with tomorrow’s concerns. Thank you for Your presence and by your Grace we can face tomorrow.  Thank you for the words of Your song: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, all fear is gone Because I know He holds the future And life is worth the living Just because He lives. Amen
